International Superyacht Society Nominee Finalist
The
Owners wanted a rugged, ocean-going expedition yacht that they could
operate themselves while cruising with friends and with their two
English Springer Spaniels. Scott Cole of Ardeo Design, working in
conjunction with the owners and Dan Thompson of Northern Marine,
have created an “Arts and Crafts”-inspired custom interior.
Beautifully detailed and hand-crafted furniture pieces constructed
of makore (African cherry) and walnut have been mixed with soft,
muted color leathers and fabrics and set against a backdrop of mahogany
walls to create a very comfortable interior.
"After the Meander was completed, one of the things the Owners
have since told me is now that they've had a chance to use the boat
and spend time enjoying her, they continue to notice the subtle,
well crafted details throughout the interior," explained Cole.
One example of this is the VIP Stateroom, which is one of the Owners'
favorite rooms — they love this space because the makore (African
cherry) wood planks on the flare of the hull create a cozy, comfortable
boat cabin that their guests enjoy. The subtle arcs on the tops
of the passage doors, the bookshelf in the headboard, the bunk frame
footboard, and the valances are reminiscent of Arts and Crafts joiner
work detailing, as well as nautical interiors. The same is true
for the passage doors inset panels and crown molding designs on
the top of the bookcase. "The bunk frames and other cabinets
were designed with appropriately styled tapered legs and recessed
toe spaces to look like well designed and crafted loose furniture,"
